★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills:
- Great with daggers and lighter swords.
- Good at stealth and thievery
- Not bad at wound care.
- Has a good eye for scoping jobs.
- Decent at socializing.
Canon Abilities: Vax has numberous abilities because of being a rogue and a paladin. He's exceptionally skilled in high amounts of damage with blades. He's difficult to hit (not impossible, at best he halves damage done to him). He's not terrible at disguising himself or others.

He has magic as a Paladin of the Raven queen that allows him to heal others a small amount. Make his enemies weaker thanks to his oath. And do even more damage thanks to channeling the power of his god into him and unleashing it. That pretty much covers Vax's skills. I can lay them out in detail, if you prefer that.
Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: Vax will have wings that look like the sky at dusk. There will always be the glimmer of light in his feathers, like a literal painting of the transition between night and day.
Role Reasoning: Vax is the champion of a goddess of death. Respect and defense of life in all its shades is his duty. Only he gladly serves. He has never personally wanted anything big. He wanted a place to belong and people to accept him. But, other people have the right to have the same. He sacrifices of himself. He pushes himself to his limits and beyond, so others have the same right to a journey that he himself has had.
★ Personality ★

Option 2.

  • What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?
When Vax was a boy, he and his twin sister were taken by their father back to the elven capital. They were given a cool reception and it never warmed. The curious boy with a serious nature kept his core. But he became very attached to those who gave a damn about him and fiercely loyal to his sister. And as a consequence, he is willing to sacrifice himself for those he loves. He will do anything for those he sees as family. Even give up his soul to a deity in exchange for theirs.

He also never tries for formality. Why bother? It wastes time, people will accept or reject him. Best to get it out of the way first. He will never behave like a typical elf. They didn't want him, why should he behave as they want? They expect him to fail. He is casually social but his trust is hard to earn. Once his loyalty is earned he is a fiercely loyal and honest man who will risk many things just to keep you safe.

It's partly because once he started taking risks, he couldn't stop. Partly because the thrill was something in this world that is his. Partly because what else is he to do? Where else will he find his worth? That's a question that has plagued most of his life.

  • What experience challenged your character's core beliefs? How did they handle this or change from it?
While seeking powerful ancient relics to combat the most recent threat to the world, Vax's twin was killed. As they sought to revive her, he snapped that the Matron of Ravens could take his soul in exchange for hers. And Goddess accepted. He entered her temple, facing her to see exactly what she wanted of him.

The Matron of Ravens was nothing like he had ever expected. She scattered his fears of death. She revealed to him she is about fate, the moment of transition, and the respect of the flow of life. To be her champion is to put down those who threaten the balance of life. The purpose of the goddess is a noble one. He was to become a defender of the weak in their most truly vulnerable moment. And to punish those who don't respect life in all its colors.

It changed him, having a purpose. Maybe it is an odd thing, but it reminded him to truly live. He sought love even as he accepted the mantle of being the champion of the Matron. Life, his life started to have meaning. He couldn't fully let go of depression and anger. He grew in strength and prepared to take on the things that threatened the world and felt it was his path to do so.

  • What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why? Vox Machina as a whole has been huge in how they shaped the man that Vax is today. They're all messed up and figuring themselves out. Scanlan seeming to be so put together made Vax wonder what he was missing and help handle his depression. Pike, their cleric made him want to be a better person. She's gentle and kind, showing him that even some of the world will not accept him. Other parts of it will.

Keyleth showed him it was okay to just be. She wears her heart on her sleeve and keeps going forward regardless of the odds. She tries to do her best and it's all part of why he fell in love with her and leans on her for support. Percy is as messed up as he is and there's a bit of comfort in that. Grog being apologetically himself and expecting the same of Vax is more than he knows how to say but it helped him just be.

Then there's Vex'ahli, his twin. No one knows him better than she does. She trusts him, loves him, will fight for him, and the only blood family he feels he has in this world is her. She would do the same things for him he has done for her. He knows it. It is a light in the darkness.

  • Is your character capable of forgiveness or will they hold a grudge until they die? Would anything ever make them change their mind?
  • Vax doesn't hold grudges forever. But how long he holds them depends on the actions of the people he has an issue with. His father did nothing, but treat them terribly and then call them unwanted after he went and got them from where they were happy. He even punished Vex for his own actions. All of these things leave a sore spot in him that makes him unable to stop being angry at his father. It is the unfairness and cruelty that keeps him from letting go.

But Percy who directly caused his twin sister's death he forgives. Percy not only apologized but he sought to do better than he had been. He was a friend before that, which is in his favor. Yet, it is the actions of the man himself that shape how Vax lets go of his fury and accepts Percy back into his close friendships. Even going as far as to get closer to him. Family doesn't always do the best things. He knows that better than anyone. He and Vex have never been the best at things. He doesn't expect that of others either.

He isn't the sort to feel anger first unless it deals with his twin sister or other family. Hurt them and he's on you, damn all else. He can rationalize things enough that grudges are few and far between. As long as you try, that's all he will ask. And forgiveness is easier when people are trying.
